Storage Case Study

Colchester, Essex - Under Stairs Storage Installation

Mr & Mrs Cleavley required more hallway storage for all their shoes, coats and bags, which were cluttering up the entrance to their otherwise beautiful home.

Their existing staircase was fairly traditional in design, and home to a cupboard and washroom, but the rest of the space under the stairs was boxed in inaccessible. In other words, there was unused space in their hall that could be put to work and improve the aesthetics and storage for the family.

Our Project Management Team met with the couple and learnt about their current challenges, as well as their aspirations for their hallway.  We measured the space and provided detailed drawings setting out our ideas for the space. Once they were happy with the design, we got to work crafting the components for the new storage at our dedicated workshop.

Using birch ply to make the drawers themselves, and MDF for the fronts, we hand-painted the drawer fronts in white with a satin finish to match the existing staircase.

We chose a three-push mechanism with touch release runners to make the opening and closing of the drawers simple and easy, otherwise, the family would still throw their shoes on the floor, rather than bother with the drawers.

Once we’d completed the build of the components, we arranged a convenient time to come and install them and complete the project. The installation itself took about a day to ensure that the fit was perfectly flush, and the drawers worked flawlessly.

The end result is stunning, transforming the hall completely. We were delighted with how pleased the family were and thoroughly enjoyed working with them to revamp the entrance of their home.
